Taking A Moment

I sit here by the window at my mother's house. It's a dreary day, my kids tossed me out of the other room so they can plan a true secret mission. A hideout where I'll never find them. Probably not a bad idea today being that I am on my last nerve. You know that nerve? The one that is the thinnest of all nerves...just hanging there all lonely and raggedy looking from all the abuse and lack of the support from all the other nerves that ditched it?

Yeah. The interesting thing about my kids....they are the best of friends. When it suits them. And when they decide it is time to let the entire mile radius around us know that a murder must be happening in the house we are occupying, that is when this sad old nerve gets a run for its money. I assume the nerve will snap one day and you might find me rocking myself in a corner somewhere.

I will take these special "best friend" moments as seeing the cup half full while I breathe and fill my self up and look out the window and feel all my nerves coming back. B r e a t h e

I just holed myself up in my studio with my macbook and a cup of tea and warned my kids that to tattle or whine at this time would be detrimental to their health. I decided to take a little break and read a few blogs to try to get back to myself again and I was feeling pretty "bad-momish" about the whole thing. It has totally made me feel okay reading about how even the best of moms have those moments. Not that I'm glad that you're having one of those days but it makes me feel not so alone in my brief bout of insanity.

You put it so well Joanna. That last nerve of mine has gotten too much abuse lately.

On the upside though, its great having kids who are best friends at least some of the time = )

I think you've described a problem that plagues many of us parents. My boys really are the best of friends, but with teen and pre-teen hormones raging, and them spending a lot of time with each other (even in our homeschool co-ops where they're with other kids, they're still hanging out near each other). Sometimes I kick them outside and tell them they can bicker somewhere where I can't hear them. :}

There was a t-shirt I saw once that said something like, "I'm down to my last nerve and you're getting on it." Maybe you need one of those. ;) Hope you'll feel better after breathing deeply for a while.

Oh poop...I realize I have an incomplete sentence there. I meant to say "...spending a lot of time with each other...they're bound to start arguing - a lot, it seems to my sensitive ears."

Hey Joanna, I hope you're feeling better. I'm the oldest and have 3 siblings. We drive our mother nuts sometimes and she has all the patience in the world. I understand. *hugs* xoxox

At least they are interacting with eachother - imagine how fun it was for my parents to listen to their only child scolding her imaginary friends! Loud AND crazy! Nice combo.
