I love handmade soap because I know the care that went into making it, because I know someone was paying attention to what they put in it, and because it's usually just so PRETTY!

I love handmade soap because there is something inherently magical about the process, because someone puts a little bit of themselves in each batch, and how wonderful it is to your skin and senses!

I love a lot of things about handmade soap but the main thing that really stands out for me is I NEVER need lotion on my skin when I am using handmade soap. If I run out and have to use commercial body washes and such I start having dry skin. Just goes to show you the awesome goodness about handmade soap.
I can be contacted at info@lavenderdelight.com if I am lucky enough to win .
Thanks for the chance.

I love handmade soap because my skin is super sensitive and the pure ingredients that go into handmade soap don't make me break out or dry out. The fact that there are a million custom scents is a bonus! ;-)

I took homemade soap for granted...until I got so busy this summer I didn't make any and I actually ran out. I grabbed a bar of store-brand soap and couldn't believe how awful it felt on my skin. Needless to say, I went on a soap-making binge shortly after.

Good Luck soap fans! A few details about the three soaps up for grabs:

"The Sweet Orange-Ylang Ylang" soap is made with buttermilk & yellow dock powder. They've sold out online and in my shops.

Eucalyptus-Mint is really "ugly as homemade soap", but it contains bentonite clay and customers with oily skin are lovin' it despite it's rather ghastly appearance.

"Lava Lamp" is also sold out now. The purple area is Ginger Lily colored with alkanet powder, topped with a layer of Litsea colored w/carrot tissue oil, and finally a layer of White Grapefruit.

Best of luck everyone,
Becky @ Heirloom Soapworks

I love homemade soap! It's soft and luxuriantly full of natural glycerin. You know where it came from and it supports someone and their family when you buy it directly from the source.

Plus it's super fun to give as gifts and makes me smile everytime I use it!

AAaaaaaaaaaaaah! Awesome soaps! Sweet giveaway!

I <3 handmade soap because it doesn't kill my skin the way mass-manufactured soaps do- instead, it leaves it feeling soft and smooth. I'm a convert and am never going back. NEVER.

I love handmade soaps because I'm a huge believer in supporting *people*, not *corporations*. I like my money to go to people doing what they love instead of giant faceless entities.

Also, natural materials > chemicals. And the scent blends are DIVINE. 10000x better than anything you'll find in a store.

Excuse me, I'm going to go write an ode to indie soapmakers now. <3

Why I love handmade soap huh? Well, there's a number of reasons but I suppose the reason why the love started in the first place was because of my skin. It's very sensitive, and when I say sensitive, I mean I'd wash my skin and I'd be red for hours on end. A friend of mine who is studying to be a dermatologist first recommended me to non-fragranced soaps and i hated them, so then she introduced me to the world of etsy. I bought one soap, smelt delicious, and i've been in love every since! I also appreciate the hard work that it takes to make a good batch of soap.

I love homemade soaps for many reasons. I love it so much I even make it! :) To me it is a way of making a connection to other people - you're using something that was made with love and passion rather than by a disgruntled employee or machine in a factory. Not to mention the vast amount of skin benefits!!!

I love handmade soaps because they are gentle and nourishing to my sensitive, always dry skin. Ever since I tried it, I've never again used a single bar of anything commercial. Plus they look pretty (like the Lava Lamp soap!), and indie stores put a lot of creativity and thought into making them. Using each bar is a real treat. :)

I love handmade soap - initially as I wanted to use a product that was all natural and didn't irritate my skin. Now I love it so much more as I've had a go at making it and now I see all the wonderful inventive and creative soaps that others are busy making - there's no limit!

Handmade soap is one of my passions. I'm always on the lookout for new soaps. x3 The obsession started because I'm allergic to many components found in the soaps and shower gels that are sold in stores. And now it's more about supporting the indie community and steering away from harmful ingredients in cosmetics. Plus, handmade soaps tend to smell better XD As there are tons of scents to choose from.

I love handmade soap on many levels. Obviously the beauty of it is right up there near the top. Soapmakers have become so creative with the appearance of their soaps, it makes me happy just seeing a bar in my soap dish. But more so I love handmade soap for it's performance. Most are incredibly mild, leave my skin soft and not dry or tight like commercial soap. They tend to be long lasting and beautifully scented. Lisa (peacecat30(at)yahoo.com)

I love handmade soap because it's like aroma therapy in the shower. In addition, I enjoy reading the "about" stories of the soap makers. All that I have read so far are sincere explanations of why they make soap.

I love handmade soap because each bar is loaded with goodies for the skin; each bar cleans, soothes, and comforts the body; while luscious fragrances capture the mind. Plus it rinses clean, so I don't feel like I'm coated in chemical residue when I get out of the shower.

Here's the truth, plain and personal:

I have nothing against scented soap, handmade or otherwise, but soap that has nothing added beyond the lye and liquid and lipids... it DOES have a smell. And this smell is why I love handmade soap.

I loved your video! I also love handmade soap because several years ago I began making my own & selling it online. I just love all natural and orgainc materials. I also grew my own herbs to use for scents. Last October I had hand surgery on my right hand to remove a bone which controls movement of my thumb, they also did tendon surgery & a bonus of carpal tunnel surgery. 3 weeks ago today I had the same surgeries done on my left hand. It is a slow, painful recovery and real long story short, I do not have the control of my hands like I did when making soaps...so I do not make them anymore. I admire anyone who accomplishes this feat as I know all involved. Keep using all natural, handmade items!!! Have a wonderful Friday!

My first comment on your nice and so helpful blog. Is it love? Is it passion? Is it both? I am just crazy about soapmaking. Making it, looking at other people doing it too, sharing tricks and ideas. The fact that it brings people together all over the world. Soapmaking is such a positive thing! I am sure that buddhist monks are making soaps too! ;-)

I love handmade soaps because I know the level of thought and care put into them, from the time spent worrying about the numbers on SoapCalc to make sure it's the best damn bar ever to the attention to colour and fragrance, additives, ingredients - each one is a product of the person making it, of their thought and care and love - there is a passion behind handmade soaps that entices me to buy. I adore that my skin loves them, that it never feels dry or type, that I want to have 10 showers a day and spend an hour each time in it! I love that I feel clean and smell great and I totally adore when my husband comments on how good I smell (love the kisses too!). Handmade is the best! I would not, could not, be without now!
