DIY Liners By Lovin Soap!

I went to my local plastic supplier, Allied Plastic Supply, and bought a big stack of lexan (polycarbonate) sheets for 15 bucks. When looking for lexan locally check out your local sign shops, sign shop suppliers and plastic suppliers. It’s a really cheap material and works great for lining molds. You can buy it in large sheets if you have a big mold. If you can’t find lexan you can also use the thin plastic chopping mats (for cooking!). Just make sure that whatever you find has a smooth side. This will be the inside of your mold. Also make sure that whatever material you choose is thin enough that you can still get your dividers back into the mold when lined.

Measure your mold and cut out a bottom piece and 4 side pieces.




If your material has a smooth side and a rough side…place the pieces with the smooth side down. Tape all four seams. You can use clear tape, painter’s tape, masking tape…really any kind of tape you want.

You’ll need to leave a tiny amount of space between the pieces for when you fold the sides up. So don’t tape them butted up touching each other. To test to make sure you left enough space tape one seam. Flip it over and fold up the outer piece towards the inside to make sure it folds up okay. If so…flip back over and finish the rest of the seams.


Once you tape all of the seams flip it over (shiny side is now up- this is the inside of your mold) and tape the sides along the seam on the outside.

After you tape all of the seams place your liner into your mold and make sure your measurements were correct and it fits!


It fits! Whew!


Also insert the dividers just to make sure the material you chose for the liner isn’t too thick. Everything fits nicely!


Time to make soap! It looks unlined…but the liner is in there!



Ta-da! If it comes untaped (mine did) no biggie. You might have to untape it to clean it anyways.

I Love Orange So That Must Mean I Like Carrots!

Carrots are everywhere. At our house, we eat the baby carrots by the bag, every week. They're delicious, and good for you! The nutrients in them are apparently good for your skin, too. Here are some soaps with REAL carrots inside.

I think I have to start making fruit and veggie soaps. I'm all curious about it. How wholesome and luscious it all seems.

Saboo Thailand


I was looking for soap made with real carrots for some soap porn and I found this site, Saboo Thailand. They make all kinds of soap. Cold process (CP), Melt and Pour (MP) and Hot Process (HP) soaps. All are really beautiful.

Shocker

John Salvest's tower of soap at Morgan Lehman Gallery, New York City; at Pulse


I have thought about this long and hard and as much as I love to receive soap from people from all around the world, I am just not here to hurt anyone and constructive criticism hurts when so much work has been poured into one's work.

There have been a number of soaps that I have received this year that I found were not review-worthy and yet, it pains me to tell their makers why I can not rave about them. I can get over scents that don't do it for me. Mostly. If a soap is skin loving and lathery, I can try to be separate from the scent unless it's punching me in the face.

I will review soaps as I purchase them for myself if I find them to be most fabulous, but I won't be doing official reviews because I can not stomach ripping anyone's heart out anymore. Again, constructive criticism has worked with some soapers and has been very helpful to some, but I am no guru.

(I love mail and soap gifts, though!)

My focus here will be mostly bringing you the best damn soap porn on the planet, offering tutorials, industry news, guest bloggers, information and openness. I do hope you continue to tell me what you love and if there are issues or matters you'd like me to address, as I am flying solo and without a compass.

Could I be any more literal?

Memorial Day always brings a mixed bag of feelings for me. Sadness, reflection, emptiness, peace, excitement, love, freedom and creative hunger.
